When it comes to even ground I just cant see the gameplay producing enough open-world or battleground scenarios where there is any even ground the luck(item drops) will cancel out the skill due to the small window of skill>gear/level too often just making pvp frustrating outside of organized match ups where everyone has the same or very similar gear. There will be little recognition for anyone who does farm the best gear and level first as they will just be winning because they have such an advantage right, losing some of the purpose to farming that gear and levels.
For battlegrounds this seems to just feed all the doom and glooms that claim instancing pvp just kills world pvp if gear means this much and isn't obtained in open world pvp but through battlegrounds and instance farming.
You say we are crying but we post and look what we are just looking to create a discussion that reveals knowledge about these mechanics we are discussing(thanks) and see what people think of this knowledge and if its at all potentially dangerous to the success of the game we love in the western market.
Gear is king in all these games, even moreso in korean mmos. Lineage anyone? How about DFO. I got a +11 sasamiyuki in that game meaning that my bread and butter takes of 50% on crit. That is unless the person I was fighting had similarly enchanted armor. I was a scrub in that game and didnt plus up my armor thinking “deeps owns”. I cried an awful lot about class balance until I looked at some of the highest ranked players and noticed one thing they all had in common. Freaking armor slots. We have a lot of ground to yet cover before we can truly speak on class balance.

The warrior class will be reborn as an offensive class with the upcoming August patch. They will still do some defensive work but in parties they will be taking on offensive roles much more often.
Sorcerers will have an easier time maintaining their mana during battle with skill balances and MP Leech skills' also they will get some new devastating spells that will aid them.
More precise notes will be available with the August patch notes.
2. New method to gain items:
We will add new methods to gain items, not only the dice rolling option but also an option for party members to bid against each other for a dropped item.
3. Bind on Pick-up items:
We will be adding a bind on pick-up quality to items that are extremely hard to get.
The warrior class will be reborn as offensive class with the upcoming August patch. They will still do some defensive work but in parties they will be taking on offensive roles much more often.
At this point, the new ninth class released next year better be another heavily-armored class with a sword and shield or folks will destroy that one.

Only mmorpg who has truly made it as being a CAREBARE mmorpg is WOW so far. AION is still young and we will see how it goes, but quite honest , ppl dont stick araund for it . Not for long term.
Lineage2 have a huge audiance right now. The game is old and the official servers are not quite full now , but the private servers are thriving . Dunno how to solve this prob tho. Lineage2 has made it trought 4 years with quite a succes.
I undarstand what ur saying ,and it is hard to apeal for all sorts of players. But the game can have both .
PPl rarely b1tch about a game being to PVP hardcore for them , but they often b1tch about game being to Carebareish.
You can adjust to a risky PVP but u cant adjust for a pvp lacking game . You will ust get boered sooner or latter.
PPL dont play mmorpgs to kill pixels , they want to kill pixels which mater. People controled chars that get mad or happy when kills.
